Proto-West-Caucasian: *kʷǝč̣́ǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: chicken
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷč̣́ǝ́-š́
Abaza: kʷč̣́ǝ-s
Comments: PAT *kʷǝč̣́ǝ-śǝ (in Abkh. assimilated), pl. *kʷǝč̣́a-ra (Abkh. a-ḳʷč̣́á-ra-kʷa, Abaz. kʷč̣́a-ra).
Proto-West-Caucasian: [-*kʷǝnǝ]
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: conditional
Abaza: -rǝ-kʷǝn
Proto-West-Caucasian: *kʷǝš(ʷ)V (~ *ḱʷ-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 mane 2 head's crown
Abkhaz: a-kʷǝ́š̌ 2
Adyghe: sakʷ 1
Kabardian: sokʷ 1
Comments: PAK *sákʷǝ. For PWC also *s may be reconstructed (since there are no Bzyb. data available).

Despite Shagirov (1977) PAK *sákʷǝ can not have been borrowed from Ub. ša-q̇Iʷǝ 'hair on head' (for phonetic reasons); however, he must be right in considering Ub. sakʷ as a loan from Ad. The Abkh. form can be compared if we assume a metathesis - which is rather common in roots of this type.

Proto-West-Caucasian: *kʷV
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: rain
Abkhaz: a-kʷá
Abaza: kʷa
Ubykh: kʷǝ
Comments: PAT *kʷa; in Ub. cf. also the verb (a-kʷǝ́-n 'it rains').
Proto-West-Caucasian: *kʷV
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 to swear 2 to dare
Abkhaz: a-kʷ-rá 1
Abaza: kʷ-ra 1
Adyghe: ja-kʷǝ-n 2
Kabardian: ja-kʷǝ-n 2
Ubykh: kʷa- 2
Comments: PAT *kʷǝ-; PAK *kʷǝ-; Ub. a-s-kʷá-n. See Shagirov 1, 173.
Proto-West-Caucasian: [*-ḳa]
Meaning: instrumental
Adyghe: -č̣́a
Kabardian: -č̣a
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳa (~ *ḳ́-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 seed, fruit-stone 2 egg
Adyghe: č̣́a
Kabardian: ǯ́adǝ-č̣a
Comments: PAK *ḳa (in Kab. preserved only within the compound "hen's seed" = "hen's egg"). Comparison with Ub. ć̣ǝ- (present in several compounds) proposed by Shagirov (1,160; 2,132) is impossible phonetically.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳa (~ *ḳ́-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: tail
Adyghe: č̣́a
Kabardian: č̣a
Comments: PAK *ḳa. No reliable parallels within WC, but some possible external correlates.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ač̣ʷǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: short
Abkhaz: a-ḳ́áč̣
Adyghe: č̣́ač̣́ǝ
Kabardian: č̣aṣ́
Comments: PAK *ḳač̣́ǝ́. Identifying *ḳa as 'tail' and treating the PAK form as 'empty-tailed' (thus in Shagirov 2, 134) is obviously a folk etymology. The Abkh. word may be, but not necessarily is, an AK loanword (phonetic correspondences are quite regular here).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ač̣ʷǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 shirt 2 quilted jacket 3 ancient women's dress
Abkhaz: a-ḳ́ač̣ 1
Adyghe: č̣́ač̣́ǝ 3
Kabardian: č̣aṣ́ 2
Comments: PAK *ḳ́ač̣́ǝ́. The formal coincidence of the root with PWC *ḳ́ač̣ʷǝ 'short' is probably fortuitous (cf. the external data). Despite Shagirov 2, 134 the Abkh. form is not a loan from Adygh (the meaning is different, and in the case of borrowing we would expect Abkh. č̣́, not č̣).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳaḳa-č́ǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: flower
Abkhaz: a-ḳaḳač́
Comments: This expressive stem is attested only in Abkh., but has some EC parallels.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́anǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: knucklebone
Adyghe: č̣́an
Kabardian: č̣an
Comments: PAK *ḳánǝ (in PWC both *ḳ and *ḳ́ may be reconstructed).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳanǝḳa / *ḳaḳanǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 egg 2 nut
Abkhaz: a-ḳaḳán 2
Abaza: ḳaḳan 2
Adyghe: č̣́anč̣́a 1
Comments: Cf. also Shaps. ḳ́āḳ́a 'egg'. PAT *ḳaḳanǝ. An expressive word (semantical development is usual: *seed, *fruit-stone > a) nut; b) egg).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳaṗa
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: shin, shank; calf of leg
Adyghe: ʎa-č̣́āṗa
Kabardian: ʎa-n-č̣āṗa
Comments: PAK *ḳaṗá (in a compound with *ʎa 'foot, leg').
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳasǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: shawl, kerchief
Abkhaz: a-ḳasǝ́
Abaza: ḳasǝ
Comments: PAT *ḳasǝ (cf. also Bzyb. a-ḳasǝ́).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳata
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: net
Abkhaz: á-ḳata
Abaza: ḳata
Comments: PAT *ḳata (cf. also Bzyb. á-ḳat).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: a morpheme denoting singularity
Abkhaz: -ḳ(ǝ)
Abaza: -ḳ(ǝ)
Ubykh: -ḳ́(ǝ)
Comments: PAT *-ḳǝ : here this morpheme is productive. It is used also within the numeral 'one' (Abkh. a-ḳǝ́, Abaz. za-ḳǝ). In Ub. it survived only within some forms like ca-ḳ́ǝ́ 'tooth' (*'a single tooth' = PAT *cǝ-ḳǝ) etc. In AK cf. perhaps Ad. -č̣́a 'deverbative abstract' (?)
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: dark
Adyghe: ṣ́ʷǝ-n-č̣́ǝ
Kabardian: č̣ǝ-f̣
Comments: PAK *c̣ʷǝ(n)-ḳǝ́ / *ḳǝ-c̣ʷǝ́ (in Ad. Bzhed. both ṣ́ʷǝnč̣́ǝ and č̣́ǝṣ́ʷǝ exist; cf. also both variants in Kab. wǝ-n-č̣ǝf̣- / wǝ-f̣ǝnč̣- 'to go out (as light)'). The root *ḳǝ is used within these two compounds with *c̣ʷǝ 'dark, black'; cf. perhaps also PAK *ḳa-ʁʷa / *ṗḳa-ʁʷa 'soot' (Ad. ṗč̣́aʁʷā-sa, Kab. č̣āʁʷa, č̣aʁʷāsa) - a compound with *ʁʷa 'smoke'. See Kuipers 1975, 33, 52, 53.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to catch, hold, grab
Abkhaz: a-ḳ-rá
Abaza: ḳ-ra
Comments: PAT *ḳǝ.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝ ( ~ *ḳ́-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 to forge 2 smithy
Adyghe: č̣́ǝš́ǝ 2
Kabardian: č̣ǝś 2
Ubykh: ḳ́ǝ- 1
Comments: PAK *ḳǝ-š́ǝ́ ( = Ub. ḳ́ǝ-ś 'smithy'); Ub. a-ḳ́ǝ́-n, a-sǝ-ḳ́ǝ́-n. In PAK the root is reflected also in *dǝśa-ḳǝ (Kab. dǝśač̣) 'goldsmith'. See Shagirov 2, 135 (with literature).
